Direct visits to crypto-native outlets reach 54% as tier‑1 publishers capture 82% of Asia’s traffic in Q2

This Asia edition continues the Outset Data Pulse series, following previous reports covering Europe and Latin America. It draws on Similarweb traffic data, Outset PR’s proprietary analysis, and anonymized qualitative survey feedback gathered from crypto media representatives across East and Southeast Asia. Together, these inputs provide a comprehensive view of the region’s crypto media dynamics.

    • Crypto-native traffic in Asia: 102.10M total visits in Q2 (Apr–Jun). Stable month-to-month: +2.23% in May, –1.34% in June — signaling consolidation rather than contraction.
    • Mainstream traffic: 744.10M visits (Apr–Jun), decreasing each month (–7.45%, then –7.29%), underscoring a divergence: niche loyalty holds while broad finance cools.
    • Concentration: Top‑tier crypto-native outlets (18 sites, each >400K avg monthly) amassed 83.52M visits (81.79% of all crypto-native traffic). Mid‑tier (19 sites) = 12.20M (11.95%). Long tail (83 sites) = 6.38M (6.24%).
    • Direct visits dominate crypto-native: 54.15% share (55.28M) vs 35.28% organic (36.03M). For mainstream, organic leads (56.48%) and direct is 29.78%.
    • Social drivers: Social is 4.85% of crypto-native traffic, but X and YouTube power engagement depth and recency.
    • AI referrals: Small but accelerating — 0.58% of total crypto-native traffic (587.75K). Among referrals, AI sources averaged 17.96% share per outlet, with leaders spiking as high as 68%.
    • Regional skew: South Korea + Japan = 70.8% of crypto-native visits. Indonesia, Vietnam, and South Korea dominate mainstream crypto visibility (≈60% combined).

    Part 1 — Crypto‑Native vs Mainstream Q2 Performance

    • Crypto-native (Asia total): 102.10M visits (Apr 33.69M → May 34.44M → Jun 33.98M). 42.74% sites grew; 57.26% declined — near‑balanced breadth.
    • Mainstream: 744.10M (Apr 267.31M → May 247.41M → Jun 229.38M). Only 17.65% grew; 82.35% declined — broader cooling.
    • Why it matters: Loyalty and language proximity stabilized crypto‑native traffic, while general interest waned in broader finance coverage.

“International media aren’t popular locally – community channels and native news platforms deliver updates faster and in the right language,” — Southeast Asia editor (survey)

Part 2 — Consolidation at the Top

    • Top tier (18 outlets, >400K monthly): 83.52M visits (81.79%). Leaders include: Coinpan, Coin Readers, BlockMedia, BloomingBit, TokenPost, CoinPost, Pintu, Cointelegraph Japan, Coinness, ODaily.
    • Tier 2 (19 outlets, 130K–400K): 12.20M (11.95%). Examples: CoinCarp, Bithumb Feed, ChainCatcher, Siam Blockchain, Blog Tien Ao, Jinse.cn, AB Media, CoinMarketCal, BlockchainMedia Indonesia, TapChiBitcoin.
    • Long tail (83 outlets, <130K): 6.38M (6.24%) — specialized niches (AI tokens, regulation trackers, DeFi, early‑stage ecosystems).

“Last year’s smaller blogs didn’t survive… the ones growing now invest in language SEO and stable cadence,” — SEA editor (survey)

    AI‑driven discovery

    • Crypto‑native: 0.58% of total (587.75K visits); 17.96% of referral traffic per outlet on average; leaders up to ~68%.
    • Mainstream: 0.50% of total (≈3.70M); 26.97% of referrals on average; some peaks near 80%.

“AI summarization reduces clicks, but it rewards structured content. We’re now optimizing for model visibility — not just search,” — Survey respondent

    Editorial Trust & Regulation

    • Japan: Clearer compliance norms influence advertising and investment framing; aligns with traditional disclosure.
    • South Korea: Strict rules on investment promotion; conservative, fact‑checked coverage prioritized.
    • SE Asia (e.g., VN, ID): Self‑governance and ethical codes fill regulatory gaps; sponsorship disclosures standardizing.

Thesis: As AI reshapes discovery, credibility is the currency.

    Growth Drivers in Q2

    1. AI + RWA tokenization narratives → sustained mid‑quarter attention.
    2. Regulatory clarity in JP/KR → mainstream integration, normalization.
    3. Localized community media → higher engagement via social‑editorial blends.

    Methodology and formulas

    • Scope: 171 outlets (crypto-native + mainstream with crypto coverage) across KR, JP, HK, VN, TW, ID, TH, PH, MY, SG.
    • Period: Q2 2025 (April–June) for traffic trends; qualitative survey of regional media reps in July 2025.
    • Source: Similarweb desktop + mobile estimates, normalized; directional signals prioritized over absolute precision.

    Refined Composite Score (RCS)

Our proprietary formula, refined for this edition of the Outset Data Pulse, now incorporates engagement as a key qualitative component. Earlier versions of the composite relied on growth and gain alone, while the current RCS integrates audience quality to reflect the evolving media environment.

    RCS = (Normalized Relative Growth × 0.25) + (Normalized Absolute Gain × 0.55) + (Engagement Index × 0.20)

Weights: 55% Absolute Gain (impact), 25% Relative Growth (dynamism), 20% Engagement (sustainability). These weights follow our PR-native logic: tangible audience expansion remains the main driver, yet engagement ensures loyalty and credibility.

Outlets <10K monthly traffic (April baseline) are excluded for comparability.

The full report will be published on Outset PR’s official blog page.

What is Outset Data Pulse (ODP)

Outset Data Pulse (ODP) is the first-ever continuous intelligence system designed for the global crypto media layer. It establishes the foundation for a scalable, data-driven infrastructure in crypto media analytics — built on PR-native formulas and proprietary indices. By introducing a new dimension to industry intelligence, ODP reveals how media ecosystems amplify, distort, or lag behind adoption narratives across blockchain, crypto, and Web3.

    What makes ODP unique

    • Original methodology and proprietary formulas. The Engagement Index (EI) and Refined Composite Score (RCS) are custom metrics developed by Outset PR to fairly evaluate growth, scale, and audience quality across crypto media.
    • Consistency and scalability. The same methodology applies across regions and outlet tiers, creating a unified framework for analyzing the global crypto mediascape.
    • Depth and context. Beyond traffic numbers, ODP interprets trends through a PR and communications lens, revealing how visibility, trust, and audience behavior intersect.

    Practical value and strategic importance

    • For journalists: ODP offers exclusive, data-driven insights that enrich coverage with a deeper understanding of crypto media dynamics.
    • For PR and marketing teams: ODP helps benchmark brand visibility, identify growth opportunities, and forecast campaign performance.
    • For analysts and investors: ODP complements on-chain and market datasets by adding the human layer — how narratives form, spread, and fade.
    • For the wider industry: ODP acts as an early-warning system, signaling where narratives are building momentum or beginning to break.

In short, Outset Data Pulse turns media data into a strategic tool — helping the crypto industry act on intelligence, not assumptions.
